Good Host

Every month-long guest, from first message to deposit back.

Good Host keeps track of each guest and tells you the next thing to do, across every home.

Made for people who rent out one to a dozen furnished homes for stays of a month or longer, often next to a full-time job.

Works on iPhone, Android and any browser. Free while in early access.

Long stays are a different job.

A weekend guest needs a key code. A guest who stays a month needs all of this, one after another:

  1. 1A form, to learn who is asking
  2. 2A check, before you say yes
  3. 3An agreement and a deposit
  4. 4Rent, every month
  5. 5Repairs, when something breaks
  6. 6A deposit, going back

Today that lives in your head or a spreadsheet. Good Host remembers it and tells you the next thing.

Five stages. One next step for each guest.

Every guest sits in one stage. Open the guest and the next step is at the top. Switch off steps you do not use, or add your own for each home.

Open it. It tells you what to do.

Today is one list across every home: what is late, what is for today, what is coming up.

Late things show in a red word, today's things in a clay word. Each row has the one button that does it, like "Mark paid" or "Send the form". Rent, repairs and guest steps are all in the same list.

Paste one link. The guest fills in the rest.

Each home has its own guest form link. Paste it into any listing or message.

The guest opens it on their phone, answers a few plain questions and taps send. They need no app and no account. Their answers reach you by email with one link that adds them to Good Host, ready to check.

Plain checks before you say yes.

Good Host reads the answers against your home and tells you what does not fit.

Are the dates free? Does it sleep that many people? Does the guest want to bring a pet to a home with no pets? Each check is a tick or a warning, in words. It is a list to read, not a score, and the decision stays yours.

  • Dates against your other stays and your minimum nights
  • People against how many the home sleeps
  • Pets, smoking, parking against your house rules
  • A past host to call, flagged when the guest left it blank

The message is already written.

Steps that need a message open one with the home's details filled in.

The guest form, the yes, the no, the agreement, the arrival guide, rent reminders, move-out instructions and the thank-you are all ready. Read it, change a word if you like, then copy it, text it or email it from your own phone.

Rent by the month, to the night at the end.

One row for each payment: who, which home, how much, when it is due, and a word: Paid, Due or Late.

Above the list sit three plain figures for the month: expected, in, and late. When a stay ends part way through a month, the last part-month is worked out by the night, so you do not have to.

All your homes, and when each one is open.

Each home has its own page: rent, deposit, how many it sleeps, pets and parking, the Wi-Fi and how to get in. The stays line shows who is in which home, and where the open dates are, so you can say "yes, it is free" without checking three places.

Your guests and your money stay on your device.

There is no account to make and no company server holding your guest list. Good Host keeps your information in your own phone or browser.

Questions

Do my guests need an account?

No. They open your link, answer a few questions and tap send. Their own mail app opens with the answers ready to email to you. No app, no sign-up.

Where is my information kept?

On your own phone or computer, in the browser or app. Good Host has no sign-up and no server that holds your guests or your money.

That also means clearing your browser data or losing your phone can lose it. Export a copy now and then and keep the file somewhere safe.

Can I use it with my listing sites?

You can paste your guest form link into any listing or message. Good Host does not connect to listing sites or read your messages from them, so you add a guest yourself, or the form adds them. When you add a guest you note where they found you.

What if I have one home?

It works the same. Good Host is made for one to a dozen homes, and with one home your Today list is just shorter.

Does it collect rent?

Not yet. Good Host shows what is due, what is paid and what is late, and you tap "Mark paid" when the money arrives, however you collect it. Collecting rent by card is on the list of what's next.

How do I move to a new phone?

On the old phone, open Settings and export a copy. That makes a file. Send it to yourself, open Good Host on the new phone, go to Settings and import it. Everything comes across.

Another question? Email hello@pointithere.com and a person will answer.

Open it and see what to do next.
